I trained my medium character in the Stronghold for an hour with a Sara Sword, and Abyssal Whip and a Bandos Godsword. The Sara earned 33,860 experience, the Whip 33,520, and the BGS earned 31,120. Of course, this doesn't mean that the Godswords are never better than a Sara Sword, beause they do have specials that are useful for certain situations.

At this point you probably want to get a Dragon warhammer or a Bandos godsword. This guide recommends you get a warhammer, but it is also viable to do range Bandos for the godsword. The main reason Bandos is not preferred at this point is that you do not yet have the herblore level to create your own Saradomin brews.

Bandos is pretty much the best in slot melee armor for general purpose. Other melee armors have higher defence, but lack the strength and prayer bonus.
